Vanessa's Baby Shower

Vanessa is a sales associate at WS. She and her husband Sam are having a baby boy! They are naming him Lucca. We decided to throw her a surprise baby shower. Maureen generously hosted the party. Everyone brought yummy treats. I made my mini chocolate pavlovas and chocolate and vanilla cupcakes. I added an extra little touch, little chocolate discs with the letter L in white chocolate for "Lucca" and little white chocolate hearts. They were cute if I do say so myself. Vanessa and Sam were very touched by all the food, the gifts, and everyone's generosity. We got them a Beaba Cook machine and assorted accessories, a scrapbook, a journal, and a Sophie giraffe. It was a lovely evening spent with our Williams-Sonoma family.

Dave's birthday

For the past 3 years, I've always planned my trip to Las Vegas to visit Jhanine and her family during this week. As a result, I've always missed Dave's birthday. (Technically it's monday) This year, since I decided to go during the World Series of Poker instead, I joined the gang to celebrate Dave. We had dinner at Matahari restaurant on Baldwin. It specializes in Malaysian food. We pooled to get Dave a couple of cooking classes from the Calphalon Culinary Centre. Also some other little treats, including a pair of large green Hulk gloves a la Big Bang Theory...too funny. Hopefully that means he'll host a delicious dinner one day...no pressure!

Wah Sing...Finally!

One of the foods that Pippette has missed, craved, wanted with every fiber of her being is Wah Sing Lobster. Frankly I'm surprised it has taken us so long to eat the lobster. She's been here for 20 days....I know she's been busy getting her mom's house ready to put on the market, but I wouldn't have been able to put off our lobsta, lobsta, lobsta visit so long. Sooo good. With the exception of Brad, everyone else had a 2for1 lobster platter for themselves. That's 7 platters, 14 lobsters. When it's this good, no one is capable of sharing. (Notice our 1 token vegetable...there was some debate if we should even bother... :)

Eat the Bunny!

Baby Sabrina is too cute for words. Every time I see her I just want to eat her up!...nibble on her toes...Like her mother, her favourite toy is a bunny. She just loves it.

Nurit's Dreamy 1985

Cat and Hosie are gone. I drove them to Buffalo on Thursday (yest). After struggling with traffic, fog and rain...I made it back into the city with enough time to change before heading to Terroni's for dinner with Steve, Pip and the gang. I was so exhausted, I could barely keep my eyes open. I came home and crashed.

I finished work at 6pm and in my mad rush to get out of there to go straight to Dave's, I cracked my head on the shelf above the trash can. The exact spot that I had painted with red marker the last time I hit the shelf with my head...(someone had since washed off the red) I didn't break the skin but I did bang it really hard. I've had a headache all night. I immediately got some ice and water in a Subway drink cup and held it to my head to try and prevent a big goose egg. After a couple of hours, I still developed a little sore bump on my forehead. It's going to be bad tomorrow.

We convened at Dave's then went to the opening night of Nurit's new show 1985. She kept and featured a whole portfolio of drawings she made in 1985, 25 years ago. It was a fun show that definitely took me down memory lane with my own Duran Duran wall of posters.

After the show we went to Phil's BBQ to eat way too much. I had the BBQ combo platter. A couple of ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket with beans and fries. I'm totally feeling what can only be described as "meat sweats"...that with the ache from my head convinces me I should go directly to bed.

Cat's hardworking results

During the last 2 weeks, Cat has been working hard to organize her mom and dad's house. Declutter, reorganize and beautify. These are the results so far. Pretty amazing. Notice the new TV.

Happy Easter Weekend

It was a very busy weekend.
Friday it was brunch at Diana's house. I made a vegetable frittata that was surprisingly good if I do say so myself and mini chocolate pavlovas (Diana's request) The contraband bacon (a tinge on the dark side :P) is just an illusion. I got to meet baby Elijah who couldn't be more adorable. That hair, those cheeks, those lips...delicious. Although I didn't take a picture of Cat and Hosie as proof of their presence, it was nice to have them actually be part of our event.
Saturday, after a morning of work, I rushed over to Uncle's at 2pm. I got to have a cold plate of what seemed like a mountain of leftovers. I had sent ahead with Cat the favourite WS Vanilla bundt cake and a batch of Hanna's Chocolate Wows (another request from Diana...I guess when a pregnant relative has a specific request, I can't deny them...) As I said, there was tons of food. The usual catered, some Korean stir fry, Sushi/Sashimi and baked ham. Sooky, Cat and I topped off the evening with some Harvey's hamburgers and a 3D showing of Clash of the Titans. Not the greatest movie storywise...but watching Sam Worthington on screen for 2 hours was worth it, Yum.
Sunday. I made WS chocolate cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting for Pippette's Easter dinner. It was a full house. 18 of us including Stinkerbum (cutie pie Sabrina). Egg decorating and playing with Sabrina and her cousin Jasmine (another cutie pie) , then a huge dinner of 2 baked hams, mashed potatoes, carrots and peas, cauliflower with hollandaise and asparagus and green beans. My cupcakes for dessert with Middle Eastern baklava that Viv and Gar brought (delicious) and some apple pies and pastries that Elaine (Steve's mom brought) It was an evening of catching up.
It was a busy but lovely weekend. I was able to do all my baking (everything turned out) and still spend some time with Cat and Sooky.

Exhausted...

I've had such a busy last few days. From picking Cat up from Buffalo, trying to split my time between work, Cat and Hosie, friends and UFC on Sat. I've been working everyday at 6am, getting up 4:30 am, then meeting up with Cat after work to either hang out, take Hosie to a movie, go out to dinner with Meredith, Diana, and Cat at Table 17 for Cat's birthday...Going to the Raptors/Clippers game at the ACC with Cat, Hosie and Cat's Dad. I can barely drag my feet to my bed. I'm finally able to sleep in thursday before I head to the mall to get some photos developed, bake mini pavlovas for Diana's brunch on Friday, grocery shopping, go shopping with Cat(Roots), possible dinner or movie with Sooky and Cat, brunch on friday with the cousins, create Easter loot bags, bake cupcakes, work on Saturday, Easter luncheon at Uncle John and Aunt Sandy's, make more cupcakes for Easter celebration at Pippette's on Sunday. Then...back to work for 6am on Monday.
Oh the life I lead. Wish me luck.
