The Olympics

For the past 2 weeks, I've been glued to my TV. Being a fan of sport in general, I've always been enamored with the stories and performances of any Olympics. A feeling of patriotic pride overwhelming me. This year's Vancouver Olympics has increased that feeling tenfold. The Olympics taking place here in Canada, the feeling of pride at our athlete's accomplishments and just the pride of being Canadian. I can feel myself tear up a little every time I hear our national anthem being played after our athletes have won gold. Everyday at work, we excitedly talk about what happened last night. When I was working the evening the Canada/Russia hockey game was on, without being asked, 3 different people called me with scoring updates throughout the evening. The sense of unity, across the country as Canadians is the strongest I've ever felt. Regardless of what happens tomorrow afternoon, (the Canadian Men's hockey team has to win gold!), I'll miss the routine I've developed over the last 2 weeks. Hopefully the pride and unity we feel about being Canadian will last a little longer. Go Canada!

Thoughts on 40

A couple of weeks ago, exactly 2 now, I turned 40. I still can't believe it. Every time I say it, I cringe a little. Acceptance, they say, is the first step...In previous years, I've celebrated my birthday as big and loud as possible, sometimes calling it my birthday "week". All about ME. This year was a little different. I just wanted to spend it with friends, family, people I love. It ended up being spread out over a week, dinner at Linda with friends on the 11th, dinner with the fam on the 12th, tea party with the lovely ladies of my work family on the 15th and dinner with the cousins on the 18th. Each event was relaxed and lovely. I just wanted to let those close to me know how much I love them. They let me know the feeling was mutual. A feeling of dread in anticipation of the day lead to a pretty nice week. I can't complain.
My cousins, you know who you are, have always encouraged me to start my own blog. I guess they just want me to fully become part of some kind of club. The club of bloggers. Anyway, here it begins.
